V1 Series
The V1 series coilovers utilise a substantial 44mm diameter piston within a 50mm diameter damper body to enhance oil capacity. During operation, the contained oil heats up. The viscosity of oil fluctuates with temperature changes, potentially altering the damping characteristics of the unit.
BC Racing exclusively employs exceptionally high-quality oil with their coilovers. Moreover, they go the extra mile to enhance performance by constructing their V1 range with a large 50mm diameter damper body. This augmentation increases the unit's capacity, thereby expanding the volume of contained oil. Consequently, this reduces the peak temperature and significantly enhances damper performance.

Corner Weighting Adjustment
The lower spring platform of BC Racing coilovers is adjustable, enabling the car to be configured for corner weighting to attain ideal balance and ensure maximum tyre efficiency.
It's essential for the car to distribute equal weight on each tyre of an axle, so both front and rear tyres should bear equal loading. This ensures that both tyres contribute equally during cornering, thereby enhancing overall grip, maximising corner speed, and reducing lap times.
Optional assister springs can be acquired to adjust wheel droop within the unit according to specific requirements.
Ride Height Adjustment
The ride height is determined by the position of the coilover bottom mount. This mount can be adjusted up and down the damper body to provide a comprehensive range of adjustments.
Since ride height is determined by an adjustable bottom mount rather than the spring platform, you maintain full damper travel irrespective of the chosen ride height setting.
Damping Adjustment
V1 coilovers boast a 30-way damping adjustment that combines both rebound and compression in a single adjuster, ensuring simplicity and ease of use. This adjustable feature enables precise tuning of the vehicle to suit specific conditions.
By adjusting the front and rear damping, you can alter the car's handling characteristics. For instance, increasing damping force at the rear relative to the front will transition the vehicle into a more oversteer-oriented stance.
For drag racing in a rear-wheel-drive car, achieving optimal weight transfer to the rear tyres is crucial to maximise traction and prevent wheel spin. Softening the rear dampers to facilitate faster compression allows the back of the car to squat off the line, enhancing traction. Conversely, if the rear dampers are set too firm, traction may be compromised.
On the other hand, for drifting, if you're struggling to break traction and experiencing understeer issues, stiffening the rear dampers while softening the front ones will reduce rear traction and improve front traction. This adjustment will loosen the rear of the car while minimizing understeer, shifting the handling characteristics more towards drifting than drag racing, road driving, or track use.
Pillowball (Rose Joint) Upper Mount
Several BC Racing V1 coilovers are equipped with pillowball upper mounts. The mount itself is crafted from aluminium alloy, anodised, and then bead blasted to provide a high-quality, durable finish.
The pillowballs themselves are manufactured in Japan, and their solid construction eliminates any flex or play typically associated with standard rubber mounts, thereby enhancing response and handling.
Camber Adjustment
If your vehicle allows for camber adjustment, BC Racing coilovers automatically include camber-adjustable aluminium pillowball top mounts. These mounts feature the same high-quality Japanese-manufactured pillowball but offer the additional benefit of an adjustable top mount, allowing camber to be set according to your requirements, whether for road, track, or drift applications.
Corrosion Protection
The damper units are made of black chromed steel to ensure excellent durability, even during the harshest European winters. The aluminium components, such as top mounts and locking collars, undergo anodising, while the steel lower mounts undergo an electrophoretic deposition process followed by powder coating.
A random selection of steel components, including brackets, dampers, and screws, undergo a salt spray test once a month to assess the quality of the protective processes and ensure that anti-corrosive properties are maintained to the highest standard possible.
High Quality Coil Springs
BC Racing coilovers exclusively employ the finest quality steel for their spring manufacturing. These springs are crafted from SAE9254 high-strength, durable cold-wound steel.
The springs undergo compression testing through over 500,000 cycles with less than 5% deformation.
Patented Concave Lower Locking Collar
Coilovers employ a locking collar to prevent the bottom mount from loosening. If the bottom mount becomes loose, the damper body may descend into it, causing a reduction in ride height on that corner. This can result in hazardous handling characteristics, which is a common issue with coilovers in general.
BC Racing utilises an innovative and patented lower locking collar design with a bevelled edge that fits into a corresponding bevel in the coilover bottom mount. This significantly increases the surface area that the locking collar engages with, effectively preventing the common and dangerous problem of the locking collars working loose.
High Quality Oil
BC Racing dampers utilise an advanced shim stack design and high-quality oil to effectively control the compression and rebound speed of the damper rod, even under the most demanding conditions.
As the vehicle traverses rough terrain, the motion of the damper rod during compression and rebound heats the oil. Low-quality dampers often use cheap oil, which can undergo changes in viscosity with fluctuating temperatures. It is crucial to use high-quality oil that maintains consistent viscosity across a wide temperature range. When the oil degrades, its properties change, resulting in alterations in damping characteristics and ultimately affecting the vehicle's handling.
BC Racing ensures the use of only high-quality oil to maintain consistent damping rates not only during immediate usage, such as during spirited drives on back roads or on the track, but also to maximise long-term durability. By using oil that resists degradation over time, the operating life of the dampers is significantly extended.
Nitrogen Pressurised Dampers
When a damper is subjected to rigorous use on the track or on high-speed bumpy roads, it can lead to the aeration of oil and the occurrence of cavitation. This aeration causes foaming, effectively reducing the oil's viscosity and hence diminishing the damping effect of the unit. While high-quality oil can mitigate this problem to some extent, BC Racing takes an additional step by pressurising the dampers with nitrogen.
The nitrogen applies pressure on a floating piston, which, in turn, exerts a continuous pressure on the oil, significantly reducing aeration and enhancing the consistency and quality of damping. Moreover, the pressurised nitrogen introduces an extra element of effective spring rate to the damper unit.
Bearing Mounted Upper Spring Platform
Minimising stiction between the spring and its seats is crucial because the spring twists as it compresses. Failure to alleviate this tension can result in spring binding, causing the spring rate to effectively alter slightly as the spring compresses and extends. This tension can lead to rapid deterioration of the spring perches and, in extreme cases, cause the spring platform and locking collars to loosen. Consequently, the platform and locking collars may "walk" down the damper, resulting in uneven ride height and the risk of the spring dislocating under full damper extension.
Moreover, the friction between the spring and seats affects steering effort as the springs are physically turned with the wheels. This introduces additional unnecessary friction into the steering system, which has a detrimental effect on the vehicle's handling characteristics.
BC Racing's innovative bearing-mounted upper spring platform addresses these issues. By significantly reducing stiction between the spring and its seats, BC Racing units avoid the aforementioned problems, thereby improving the efficiency of the steering system and allowing the spring and damper to function as designed.
Optional Upgrades
Damper adjusting extenders – to streamline the process of adjusting the damping on your BC Racing coilovers without the hassle of removing the parcel shelf each time, we offer pairs of adjuster extenders. These extenders attach to the adjuster knob on the top of the coilover and are available in three lengths: 110mm, 200mm, and 250mm. They can be easily attached in seconds with a simple grub screw design.
Assister spring perch – you may prefer to introduce some droop with your coilovers or perhaps adjust the ride by adding an additional smaller assister spring. The spring perch and assister springs allow you to achieve this, with a wide range of spring rates available.
Pillowball top mount – while some applications come with hardened rubber top mounts as standard to ensure a high-quality ride and keep costs reasonable for road use, we often provide a pillowball upgrade for these vehicles. This upgrade eliminates the flex inherent in even the hardened rubber used by BR Racing, thereby enhancing the handling for those seeking the ultimate performance.
