This downpipe kit from Wagner Tuning is built to reduce exhaust back pressure on VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) 1.8 and 2.0 TSI front-wheel drive engines fitted with an OPF (Otto Particle Filter, a factory exhaust filter found on newer Euro 6 models). By replacing the restrictive factory downpipe and filter assembly with a free-flowing alternative, the kit helps the turbocharger spool more efficiently. The result is sharper throttle response, a useful gain in power, and a noticeable lift in mid-range torque.

At the heart of the kit is a 200 CPSI (cells per square inch) racing metal catalytic converter. This is a high-flow sports cat that keeps some emissions filtering in place while significantly cutting the restriction of the standard setup. The whole assembly is made from cast stainless steel (grade 1.4301 / SS304), which copes well with the high temperatures and corrosion that exhaust systems are exposed to over time.

Why Fit a Sports Downpipe?

The factory downpipe and OPF combination is a known restriction on TSI engines. Exhaust gases have to pass through tight bends and a dense particulate filter before they can exit the system, which holds the turbo back and adds heat load to surrounding components. A larger bore, free-flowing downpipe lets the turbo breathe more easily, which not only unlocks performance but can also help reduce under-bonnet temperatures during spirited driving.

Fitted on its own the kit provides a moderate improvement, but its full potential is realised when paired with a stage tune (ECU remap). Many tuners require a less restrictive downpipe to safely deliver Stage 2 power levels.

• Audi A3 (8V) 1.8 TSI 132kW / 180ps – not suitable for Quattro models
• Audi A3 (8V) 2.0 TSI 140kW / 190ps – not suitable for Quattro models
• SEAT Leon III ST 1.8 TSI 132kW / 180ps
• SEAT Leon III Cupra / R 2.0 TSI 195kW / 265ps to 228kW / 310ps – not suitable for 4WD models
• Skoda Octavia III 1.8 TSI 132kW / 180ps
• Skoda Octavia III RS 2.0 TSI 162kW / 220ps to 180kW / 245ps
• VW Golf VII GTI 2.0 TSI 162kW / 220ps to 195kW / 265ps
