Wagner Tuning Mercedes-Benz E63 (S) AMG Radiator Upgrade Kit
The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is already a seriously capable car, but its 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine produces a substantial amount of heat – particularly under hard driving or when tuned for higher power outputs. This radiator upgrade kit from Wagner Tuning is designed to tackle that directly, increasing the cooling capacity of the factory system and helping to maintain stable engine and charge air temperatures when it matters most.
How the AMG Cooling System Works
Unlike many turbocharged engines that cool the compressed intake air using ambient airflow alone, the AMG 4.0 V8 uses an indirect charge air cooling circuit. A dedicated coolant loop removes heat from the charged air (the air compressed by the turbochargers before it enters the engine). The cooler that coolant can be kept, the more effectively the system reduces intake air temperatures – and cooler, denser intake air means better combustion and more consistent performance.
The factory radiators do a reasonable job in standard form, but there is a clear limit to their capacity, especially during sustained high-load driving or once the engine has been tuned for additional power. Wagner Tuning’s kit replaces both the front radiator and the side cooler with significantly larger, higher-capacity units.
What’s Included
- High-capacity front radiator with increased core depth and coolant volume
- Upgraded side cooler with greater internal surface area
- Thermally conductive anti-corrosion coating on both units
Both coolers use Wagner Tuning’s competition-spec core design, featuring internal “competition racing nets” – a core construction that increases the ratio of internal to external cooling surface area. This maximises the rate at which heat transfers from the coolant to the airflow passing through the core.
The thermally conductive anti-corrosion coating helps protect the aluminium cores from long-term degradation and supports consistent cooling efficiency over the life of the parts.
Technical Comparison
| Component | OEM Specification | Wagner Tuning Specification | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front Radiator – Dimensions | 640 x 430 x 27 mm | 645 x 390 x 52 mm | Core depth doubled |
| Front Radiator – Volume | 7.43 litres | 13.2 litres | +75% |
| Front Radiator – Surface Area | 2,752 cm² | 2,539 cm² | Optimised for airflow balance |
| Side Cooler – Dimensions | 260 x 213 x 32 mm | 264 x 213 x 50 mm | Increased core depth |
Key Benefits
- More stable coolant temperatures during sustained high-load driving
- Lower intake air temperatures, supporting more consistent power delivery
- Greater cooling headroom for tuned vehicles running increased boost or power
- Direct fitment using factory mounting points and connections
For owners who track their car, drive in warmer climates, or have moved beyond stock power, the standard cooling system is often the first limiting factor. This kit addresses that limitation without compromising drivability or requiring further modifications.
Fitment
Designed for the Mercedes-Benz E63 and E63 S AMG fitted with the M157 and M177 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engines. Please use the vehicle lookup on the site or check the Vehicle Fitment tab to confirm compatibility with your specific model and year.
Installation note: This kit replaces both the front radiator and side cooler.
