The Wagner Tuning Carbon Air Intake System is a direct replacement for the factory air intake fitted to the VW Golf 8 R and Golf 8 GTI Clubsport. It removes the restrictions of the standard airbox and intake tract, allowing the EA888.4 2.0 TSI engine to draw in more air, more efficiently, for sharper throttle response and improved performance.

Developed using 3D flow simulation (a computer-based process that models how air travels through a system), Wagner Tuning have shaped the airbox and intake path to feed the turbocharger as cleanly as possible. The result is a claimed +50% increase in air mass flow rate compared to the standard intake, meaning the engine receives a greater volume of cooler, denser air to support better combustion and more consistent power delivery, particularly under sustained load.

Construction and Design

The airbox itself is made from carbon fibre, which keeps weight down while also acting as a heat shield. By isolating the filter from the heat of the engine bay, intake temperatures stay lower and the air entering the turbo holds more oxygen, which is beneficial for performance.

A 76mm aluminium adapter links the airbox to the turbocharger inlet, paired with an adaptive silicone hose that fits directly to the factory connection point. No cutting or modification of the original pipework is required, and the kit retains a clean, OEM-style fit in the engine bay.
