Wagner Tuning BMW M2 Competition S55 Radiator Kit (F87)
The BMW M2 Competition’s 3.0-litre S55 twin-turbo engine uses an indirect charge air cooling system. Rather than cooling the intake air directly with ambient airflow, it relies on a separate low-temperature water circuit to do the job. The cooler that water stays, the better the charge air cooling performs, and the more consistently the engine can deliver its power.
This Wagner Tuning Radiator Kit is developed specifically for the F87 M2 Competition and replaces both the front and side low-temperature water coolers with significantly larger, higher-capacity units. The result is a cooling system that works harder, stays cooler for longer, and better supports sustained performance, whether on track or during spirited road driving.
Why upgrade the low-temperature water coolers?
On the standard S55 setup, the low-temperature cooling circuit can become a limiting factor under hard use. As coolant temperature rises, charge air cooling efficiency drops, and with it engine performance. This is particularly noticeable on track days or back-to-back performance runs, where heat soak (the build-up of heat in the cooling system over time) becomes a real issue.
Wagner Tuning’s upgraded coolers increase the total volume of coolant in the circuit and improve heat transfer. This means the system takes longer to heat soak and recovers more quickly between hard runs, helping the engine perform closer to its potential for longer periods.
What’s different about the Wagner Tuning design?
The upgraded coolers use newly developed competition-spec internal fins (referred to as “racing nets”) that maximise the surface area available for heat transfer. Importantly, the design still allows enough airflow to pass through to the main engine water cooler behind it, so improved charge air cooling doesn’t come at the expense of general engine cooling.
Each cooler is finished with a thermally conductive anti-corrosion coating, helping to maintain long-term performance and protect against degradation within the cooling circuit.
- Direct replacement for the OEM front and side low-temperature water coolers
- Significantly increased coolant volume and surface area for improved heat transfer
- Competition-spec internal fin design with airflow optimised for the cooler behind
- Thermally conductive anti-corrosion coating for long-term durability
Size comparison – OEM vs Wagner Tuning
| Component | OEM Size | Wagner Tuning Size | Volume Increase | Surface Area Increase |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Front water cooler | 590 x 308 x 25 mm / 4.5 litres / 1817 cm² | 568 x 468.4 x 32 mm / 8.5 litres | +89% | +46.4% (2660.5 cm²) |
| Side water cooler | 250 x 165 x 40 mm / 1.65 litres / 412.5 cm² | 252 x 188 x 68 mm / 3.2 litres | +94% | Increased fin surface area |
Fitment
This kit is designed specifically for the BMW M2 Competition (F87) fitted with the S55 3.0-litre twin-turbo engine. Please use the vehicle lookup on our site or check the Vehicle Fitment tab to confirm compatibility with your car before ordering.
Note: This is a performance cooling upgrade aimed at owners who use their M2 Competition on track or in demanding driving conditions. For best results, both the front and side coolers should be fitted together as a complete kit, as the system is designed to work as a matched pair.
