EVO3 Competition Intercooler Upgrade Kit (Part No. 200001113)
The Wagner Tuning EVO3 intercooler is a substantial upgrade over the factory unit. The standard intercooler on the N55 copes with stock power levels, but once you start pushing the engine harder – through tuning or sustained spirited driving – it struggles to keep charge air temperatures under control. Hot air entering the engine is less dense and carries less oxygen, which reduces power and can cause the ECU to pull back ignition timing to protect the engine.
The EVO3 addresses this directly. It measures 510mm x 303mm x 180mm and offers a 162% larger flow area and 182% more charge air volume compared to the stock intercooler. In practical terms, the air feeding the engine stays cooler for longer, even under hard driving conditions.
Core and Construction
The core uses a tube-fin mesh design with internal turbulators – small internal features that disrupt airflow inside the cooler to increase contact between the hot air and the cooler surfaces, improving heat transfer. The end tanks (the chambers at each end of the core) are cast aluminium and have been shaped using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis, a computer-based method for modelling how gases flow through a component. This helps minimise pressure drop across the core, so you gain cooling without losing airflow.
Inlet and outlet diameters have been increased to 70mm to support the higher airflow demands of a tuned N55. Despite its size, the intercooler weighs just 13.2kg. An anti-corrosion coating with heat-conductive properties is applied to ensure longevity and consistent performance, and the unit is tested and rated pressure-stable up to 6 bar.
High-Flow De-Cat Downpipe
The factory catalytic converter is one of the largest exhaust restrictions on the N55. Replacing it with Wagner’s de-cat downpipe allows exhaust gases to leave the turbo more freely, which reduces back pressure, helps the turbo spool more quickly and supports higher power output when paired with a remap.
The downpipe is constructed from stainless steel with smooth mandrel bends to maintain flow, and is designed to bolt directly to the factory exhaust system without modification.
Important: A de-cat downpipe removes the catalytic converter and is intended for off-road or motorsport use only. It will trigger an engine management light unless paired with appropriate ECU software, and is not road legal in many regions. Please check local regulations before fitting.
