The Audi S4 (B8) and S5 (8T) are powered by a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine producing 333PS from the factory. The kit adds an upgraded auxiliary water cooler to the existing cooling circuit, helping to bring charge air temperatures down and keep the engine performing consistently, even under sustained hard driving.

What Does It Do?

The factory cooling setup on the S4 and S5 relies on ambient airflow to manage temperatures in the charge air cooling circuit. Under repeated hard acceleration or hot weather, this can struggle to keep up. Wagner Tuning’s kit replaces the standard auxiliary radiator with a far more capable competition-spec unit, working alongside the factory system to reduce coolant temperatures more effectively. Cooler coolant means cooler charge air entering the engine, which in turn means the engine can maintain its power output more reliably when pushed.

At the heart of the kit is Wagner’s competition racing network radiator core, which increases radiator volume over the standard water cooler by 92%. The internal and external cooling surface areas are carefully balanced to maximise heat transfer while still allowing adequate airflow to surrounding components – so you’re not solving one problem by creating another. The core is also finished with a thermally conductive anti-corrosion coating as standard, helping to protect the unit and maintain consistent performance over time.

Why Does It Matter?

On a standard road car, charge air temperatures can climb quickly during repeated hard acceleration, track use, or hot weather driving. When this happens, the ECU may pull power to protect the engine – a process commonly known as thermal throttling. Improving cooling capacity reduces the likelihood of this, allowing the engine to hold its output more consistently.

This kit is particularly well suited to owners who have tuned or remapped their S4 or S5, where the engine is already working closer to its limits. It is also a sensible upgrade for anyone who uses their car on track days, drives in hotter climates, or simply wants to keep the engine in its ideal operating range during spirited road driving.
