Respons TMS Adjustable Bias Venting Diverter – Kia/Hyundai 1.6T-GDI Smartstream (G4FP)
The latest Smartstream 1.6 T-GDi engines fitted to Hyundai’s i20 N and other models do not use a MAF sensor which means that you can vent to atmosphere for that blow-off sound, if you like, without causing any driveability issues or ‘Check Engine’ lights.
This Respons TMS valve features dual-outlets with a full bias adjustment system that allows you to simply twist the adjustment ring on the valve body to alter the sound to your taste.
Product Note: Only for models with Smartstream 1.6T-GDI engine (G4FP), NOT Gamma 1.6T-GDI (G4FJ). You can identify Smartstream models because they will have ‘Smartstream’ on the engine cover.
Why replace the factory bypass valve? Better performance! Factory bypass valves typically have two main shortcomings – one is that they are often designed to blow open above a certain pressure, and the other is they are not optimised for throttle response.
Just another dual-port BOV?
On the surface, it may look like just another dual-port blow-off valve, but the Respons is actually much more than that. Featuring GFB’s venting bias adjustment system, the Respons allows you to precisely control how much air vents from each of the two outlets.
Why is this so important? There are two key reasons:
- Adjust how loud the blow-off sound is. Recirculate all of the air for silent factory operation, vent it all to atmosphere for maximum noise, or set it ANYWHERE in between to suit your preference.
- Get a blow-off sound WITHOUT causing stalling, backfiring, or any other BOV-related issues, even on a car with a sensitive airflow meter (MAF).
Hold on, it gets better. The Respons isn’t just a noise-maker. It also;
- Offers better throttle response
- Faster boost recovery on gearshift
- Unlimited boost-holding!
For example, using GFB’s TMS (Turbo Management System) principle, tests show that the Respons can return the engine to peak boost up to 30% faster than a factory diverter valve when shifting gears (more information below)
How GFB’s venting bias adjustment works
Twisting the adjusting ring opens up the atmo port, whilst the recirc port is simultaneously closed. This results in possible venting ratios ranging from 100% recirc, right through to 100% atmosphere and anywhere in between.

1+ IN STOCK in green stock is readily available in one of our warehouses for express delivery (at the time of viewing).
LOW STOCK in green means we're running low! 1 or 2 left on the shelf so act fast. Over evenings, weekends and bank holidays this stock can move quickly so please bear this in mind.
0 IN STOCK in blue means our primary warehouse does not have unallocated stock, but our UK partners do. Often these can be shipped quickly and efficiently. You'll be notified via the Track My Order page if further delays are unavoidable.
MADE TO ORDER in blue means we've partnered with a supplier which primarily makes their products to order. It's not on our shelf, but your order goes into production immediately.
0 IN STOCK in orange means everybody we work with is unfortunately out of stock. Stock is not available in the UK. The best course of action is to place an order to create an allocation from the next batch arriving.
OUT OF STOCK in red. This product is unavailable to order, for whatever reason we're unable to obtain stock or there is an issue with supply/lead times.

In the words of the Vehicle Standards Agency (VCA), type approval provides "confirmation that production and samples of a design will meet specified performance standards".
For emissions components this encompasses noise, emissions and balanced back pressure, which have a strong influence on maintaining engine performance (power), and fuel efficiency. Type approval ensures that an aftermarket component will reach, or exceed the performance standard of the corresponding OE part.
Type-approval then, is a certain guarantee that an end user will receive a product of OE equivalent performance attributes.
Products on the Progressive Parts website that meet this approval will be clearly marked or labelled EC or ECE approved.
