The Ramair PRORAM performance intake kit is a direct replacement for the standard factory air intake system on BMW N20-engined models. What Does It Do?

The factory air intake on most road cars is designed with cost and noise reduction in mind, not outright airflow. The PRORAM kit replaces this with a less restrictive setup, allowing the turbocharger (the forced-induction unit that pushes compressed air into the engine) to draw in air more easily. The result is improved throttle response and a more audible induction sound under acceleration.

Performance gains are most noticeable on vehicles that have been remapped or tuned. On a standard, unmodified car, the difference will be more subtle – but the kit still provides a genuine improvement in intake efficiency and response feel.

The Pleated Filter

The PRORAM pleated filter uses a synthetic nanofibre media. This means the filter material is made up of very fine synthetic fibres layered in a pleated (folded) design, which increases the surface area available to trap particles while keeping airflow high. It is a reusable, cleanable filter – so unlike a standard paper filter, it does not need replacing regularly under normal conditions.

Heat Shield

Hot air is less dense than cool air, and less dense air means less oxygen reaching the engine. The included heat shield acts as a physical barrier between the filter and the warmer parts of the engine bay, helping the intake draw in cooler, denser air where possible. This is particularly useful in stop-start or urban driving where engine bay temperatures rise more quickly.
