The Ramair PRORAM PRK-148-BK is an oversized performance induction kit designed specifically for the Volkswagen MQB platform, covering EA888 Gen.3 engines in both right-hand and left-hand drive vehicles. It replaces the factory air intake system with a larger, freer-flowing setup that helps your engine breathe more efficiently – particularly beneficial on tuned or mapped vehicles where the standard intake can become a restriction.

The kit centres around a large-diameter aluminium hard pipe that tapers from 102mm (4 inches) at the filter inlet down to an 80mm oversized turbo elbow connection. That size increase over the standard pipework means less restriction for the incoming air, which supports improved airflow into the turbocharger. A custom V-band clamp – a type of circular collar that locks two pipe ends together securely – holds everything in place and makes fitting and removal straightforward. A take-off barb (a small pipe connector) is also built in to reconnect the OEM vacuum line, so factory systems continue to function as normal.

The PRORAM Performance Filter

At the heart of the kit is Ramair’s PRORAM synthetic nanofibre air filter, built using a Twin-Tangential Velocity Stack design. In simple terms, this means the filter is shaped to draw air in from two angles simultaneously, reducing turbulence as air enters the system. The pleated nanofibre filtration material offers good filtration while flowing more air than a standard paper filter element. The result is improved airflow, a more responsive intake, and a noticeably better induction sound from the four-cylinder engine.

CNC Laser-Cut Aluminium Heatshield

The kit includes a lightweight aluminium heatshield that bolts directly to the original factory mounting points – no drilling or modification needed. Keeping the filter shielded from engine bay heat is important, because cooler, denser air contains more oxygen, which helps combustion and maintains performance. The heatshield is precision-cut using laser technology, assembled with aircraft-grade rivets, and finished in a satin black powder coat for a clean, durable appearance.

Fitment and Installation

This kit is designed for vehicles using the Volkswagen Group MQB platform with the EA888 Gen.3 2.0 TSI engine – this covers a range of popular performance models including the Golf GTI and Golf R (Mk7 and Mk7.5), as well as other MQB-based vehicles across the VW, Audi, SEAT, and Skoda range.
