Ramair Performance Air Intake Kit – VAG 1.8T & 1.9 TDI (JSK-103-80)
This Ramair induction kit is designed to replace the factory air intake system on a range of popular VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) petrol and diesel models built on the VW Golf Mk4 platform. It improves airflow into the engine, which can contribute to better throttle response, a more involving induction sound, and support for further performance tuning.
The kit covers two engine families. For the 1.8T petrol variants, it is designed specifically for vehicles using the larger 80mm external diameter MAF sensor housing – the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine, so compatibility here is important. It also fits the 1.9 TDI turbodiesel variants across several models in the same platform group.
What Does It Replace and Why Does It Matter?
The kit replaces all of the factory intake pipework right back to the turbo inlet. The standard airbox fitted from the factory is designed with cost and noise reduction in mind, not outright performance. Ramair’s replacement opens up the airflow path significantly, reducing restriction and allowing the turbo to breathe more freely. On an already-modified or remapped car, this kind of intake upgrade can be particularly worthwhile, as a tuned engine benefits from the least restricted air supply possible.
What’s Included
- High-flow twin-layer performance foam filter with stainless steel cage support and a satin black flow-calculated trumpet (the flared inlet that helps guide air smoothly into the filter)
- Two-part CNC laser-cut heat shield, assembled with aircraft-grade rivets and finished in satin black powder coat – this helps shield the filter from hot engine bay air, keeping intake temperatures lower
- Complete fitting kit including every nut, bolt, and bracket required
- Updated, high-quality fitting instructions
Build Quality
Ramair use the same production techniques in this kit as they do for their motorsport-level equipment. The heat shield in particular is notably more detailed in its design than many alternatives on the market. Every fitting kit is inspected twice before packaging to ensure nothing is missing.
Realistic Expectations
An induction kit alone will not dramatically increase power figures on an otherwise standard car – the gains are most noticeable when combined with an ECU remap or other supporting modifications. What you will notice on most applications is improved throttle response, a more immediate power delivery, and a more audible induction note under acceleration.
Fitment
This kit fits a range of VAG models using the 1.8T petrol (with 80mm MAF housing) and 1.9 TDI diesel engines, including the Audi A3, Audi S3, Audi TT, SEAT Leon, SEAT Toledo, Skoda Octavia, and VW Golf – primarily covering late 1990s to mid-2000s models.
