Ramair Performance Panel Filter for BMW M2, M3 and M4 (G8X) – S58 3.0T Engine
This Ramair panel filter is a direct, drop-in replacement for the standard paper air filter in the BMW M2, M3 and M4 fitted with the S58 3.0-litre turbocharged engine. It sits in the original airbox (the plastic housing that holds the air filter), so there is no cutting, fabricating, or modification required – it simply swaps in place of the factory filter.
The standard paper filter that comes fitted from the factory does a reasonable job, but it restricts airflow more than it needs to. Ramair’s foam-based design allows more air to pass through while still filtering out dust and debris effectively. Better airflow means the engine can breathe more freely, which supports improved throttle response and helps the S58’s twin-turbo setup perform at its best.
What Makes the Ramair Foam Filter Different?
Rather than a single layer of paper, this filter uses twin-layer reticulated foam – an open-cell foam structure that is engineered to balance airflow and filtration. The dual-layer construction means the outer layer catches larger particles while the inner layer handles finer dust, giving you both protection and performance. The foam is MAF-safe, meaning it will not interfere with the Mass Air Flow sensor (the sensor that measures how much air enters the engine and affects fuelling). Some foam filters can cause problems with this sensor, but Ramair’s foam is specifically blended to avoid this issue.
The filter is built around a stainless steel cage for structural support, keeping it rigid and in shape even under high airflow conditions. The outer surround is a high-quality rubber polymer, which provides a solid, clean seal against the airbox – preventing unfiltered air from bypassing the filter.
Easy to Maintain and Built to Last
Unlike a paper filter that needs to be thrown away and replaced periodically, this foam filter can be cleaned and reused. Ramair recommend using their own maintenance kit (CK-003) to clean and re-oil the filter when needed, keeping it performing well over a long service life.

In the words of the Vehicle Standards Agency (VCA), type approval provides "confirmation that production and samples of a design will meet specified performance standards".
For emissions components this encompasses noise, emissions and balanced back pressure, which have a strong influence on maintaining engine performance (power), and fuel efficiency. Type approval ensures that an aftermarket component will reach, or exceed the performance standard of the corresponding OE part. Type-approval then, is a certain guarantee that an end user will receive a product of OE equivalent performance attributes. Products on the Progressive Parts website that meet this approval will be clearly marked or labelled EC or ECE approved.
