This performance air intake kit from Ramair is a direct replacement for the restrictive factory airbox on BMW B58-engined models. Designed specifically for the 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine found in the 140i, 240i, 340i, and 440i, it gives the engine a cleaner, less restricted path to draw in air – which can sharpen throttle response and unlock a little more from what is already a strong engine.

The standout feature here is the carbon fibre lid, which pairs well with the black powder-coated heat shield and hard pipe for a clean, purposeful look under the bonnet. It is the kind of upgrade that improves both form and function without looking out of place.

What It Does and Why It Matters

The standard BMW airbox does a reasonable job, but it is designed with noise, cost, and emissions compliance in mind – not outright performance. This Ramair kit opens up the intake path with a 90mm diameter inlet (the measurement of the pipe that feeds air into the engine) and uses a foam performance filter in place of the paper factory item. Foam filters flow more air and can be cleaned and re-oiled rather than replaced, making them a practical long-term choice.

The kit is also designed to match the original MAF sensor dimensions. The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor tells the engine’s ECU (the car’s main control unit) how much air is entering, so keeping this measurement accurate is important for correct fuelling and engine management. Getting this wrong can cause running issues, so it is a detail worth noting – and Ramair have accounted for it here.

As a welcome side effect, you will also notice a more audible induction and turbo sound at higher revs, which many B58 owners consider a worthwhile bonus.
