iABED Baffled Aluminium Oil Sump/Pan EA888 Engines
A true baffled oil sump for the EA888 engines is designed to address a common problem that arises in high-performance cars: oil surge.
Oil surge occurs when the oil in the sump sloshes around during hard cornering or braking, causing a momentary loss of oil pressure. This can starve the engine of oil, leading to catastrophic engine failure.
A baffled sump helps to prevent oil surge by reducing the amount of oil sloshing around in the sump during aggressive driving. The baffles act as walls and partitions that break up the surface tension of the oil, preventing it from moving excessively. As a result, the engine receives a constant and reliable supply of oil, even under extreme conditions.
Does a baffled sump require more oil?
No, a baffled sump does not require more oil than a standard sump. In fact, a baffled sump is often shallower than a standard sump, which means it can hold less oil. However, the advantage of a baffled sump is that the oil within it is better utilized and distributed, making it more efficient and effective at keeping the engine lubricated.
