HEL Direct Fit Oil Cooler Kit for Honda Civic (FL5) Type R

The HEL (Automotive) Development Centre has engineered a new direct-fit oil cooler specifically for the all-new 2023-onwards Honda FL5 Civic Type R. Development of this kit commenced after the Centre acquired its own FL5 for research and design. Extensive time was dedicated to its development, and the team is highly satisfied with the outcome.

Unlike the FK2 Civic Type R, and much like the FK8, limited options existed for optimal oil cooler placement on the FL5. After a thorough 3D scan of the front end, the left side of the grille area was chosen. This position ensures direct airflow without impeding airflow to other components.

This kit incorporates a 16-row Setrab Series 6 ProLine oil cooler. The 16-row configuration strikes an excellent balance, minimizing pressure loss while providing highly effective cooling.

For the other end of the cooler, the latest Multi Angled Billet Thermostatic sandwich plate was selected. Its front-mounted thermostat provides crucial extra clearance in this kit, where space around the oil filter is restricted. This plate also features two spare ports, allowing for the installation of temperature and pressure sensors if desired.

The HEL Performance Multi Angled Billet thermostatic sandwich plate is set at 92°C (197.6°F). This temperature setting has been determined to offer the perfect balance between effective cooling when necessary and allowing the engine to warm up safely. Operating the oil at excessively low temperatures can be detrimental, and the thermostat precisely controls the temperature.

This comprehensive kit comes complete with pre-assembled high-flow AN10 HEL braided hoses and anodized aluminum fittings, along with all necessary fixings and brackets. These components utilize original equipment (OE) pickups, requiring no drilling or modifications to the car. The hoses are protected with abrasion-resistant, heat-shrunk braided sleeving, which also aids in noise and rattle suppression.

This direct-fit kit provides a safe and reliable cooling system for the FL5 Type R. It includes easy-to-understand instructions, and the technical support team is always available to answer any questions customers may have.

Please note:

Oil temperature data was collected using a standalone SPAR oil temperature/pressure gauge, with the sensor unit mounted directly in the oil cooler sandwich plate. This provided a true oil temperature reading during testing. In contrast, the data displayed on the HUD & Honda LogoR system is a simulated reading and should not be used for reference once an oil cooler kit has been installed.

Testing was carried out at Castle Combe (UK) in an average ambient air temperature of 18°C. A provided graph contains all collected information.

LOW STOCK in green means we're running low! 1 or 2 left on the shelf so act fast. Over evenings, weekends and bank holidays this stock can move quickly so please bear this in mind.

0 IN STOCK in blue means our primary warehouse does not have unallocated stock, but our UK partners do. Often these can be shipped quickly and efficiently. You'll be notified via the Track My Order page if further delays are unavoidable.

MADE TO ORDER in blue means we've partnered with a supplier which primarily makes their products to order. It's not on our shelf, but your order goes into production immediately.

0 IN STOCK in orange means everybody we work with is unfortunately out of stock. Stock is not available in the UK. The best course of action is to place an order to create an allocation from the next batch arriving.

In the words of the Vehicle Standards Agency (VCA), type approval provides "confirmation that production and samples of a design will meet specified performance standards".

For emissions components this encompasses noise, emissions and balanced back pressure, which have a strong influence on maintaining engine performance (power), and fuel efficiency. Type approval ensures that an aftermarket component will reach, or exceed the performance standard of the corresponding OE part.

Type-approval then, is a certain guarantee that an end user will receive a product of OE equivalent performance attributes.
