EBC Brakes 380mm 6-Pot Apollo Big Brake Kit
Six-piston Apollo big brake kit now in stock – initial release tailored for VW’s high-performance MQB and MQB Evo variants. Ever since its debut, EBC Brakes Racing’s 4-piston Apollo Big Brake Kit has set a new standard for braking performance across a range of vehicle models, blending precision engineering from Britain with unmatched value-for-money.
The Apollo-4 Calipers are available in BLACK, BLUE, RED OR YELLOW finishes and include Yellowstuff or Bluestuff compound pads.
Alongside its availability as a standalone caliper option, the inaugural release of the full 6-piston Apollo Big Brake Kit is custom-tailored for the immensely popular Mk7 VW Golf GTI and R models, as well as the Mk8 VW Golf GTI – renowned hot hatches synonymous with spirited road driving, track days, and competitive racing.
Key Features
- EBC’s lightweight-yet-strong aluminium 6-piston brake caliper
- Two-piece bolted design that incorporates high-tensile 12.9-grade steel bolts for reinforcement of the caliper bridge section (computer FEA analysis shows that this offers significant improvements in caliper stiffness compared to a monobloc design)
- Machined from heat-treated low-pressure castings (this offers a noticeable performance advantage over conventional gravity cast calipers, exhibiting higher overall strength and a comparable caliper body stiffness to forging)
- High-temperature fluid seals coupled with full boot-type dust seals give maximum protection against road grime and debris
- Lightweight, hard-anodised aluminium staggered pistons with serrated/castellated piston noses that reduce heat transfer into the braking hydraulics
- Every single brake caliper pressure tested to 2,500psi
- Full stainless-steel hardware and fittings, providing durability and longevity – this caliper will never rust
- Uses standard pad shapes, giving choice when selecting brake pads
- Rather than a powder-coated finish, all Apollo calipers use an advanced high-temperature Teflon™ polyester coating process to ensure they look great for much longer. Currently available in Stealth Black, Storm Shadow Blue, Luminous Yellow and Racing Red
EBC Brakes Racing is dedicated to providing uncompromised braking products of the highest calibre, delivering unmatched performance on track days and in competitive racing environments.
Wheel Fitment TemplatesApollo Balanced Big Brake Kits
Every kit is supplied with all the hardware you need to completely replace all equivalent components of your vehicles stock braking system, giving a firmer and more responsive brake pedal and allowing you to drive harder for longer without the onset of brake fade.
Yet unlike all other front ‘big brake kits’ on the market – which solely supply the parts for one axle – every EBC Balanced Big Brake Kit is a full vehicle upgrade and is supplied complete with matching friction rear pads to fit the original caliper and braided brake lines for the front and rear, ensuring a totally balanced brake upgrade that delivers maximum braking performance.
Apollo Calipers
Apollo brake calipers employ a two-piece bolted design, integrating high-tensile 12.9 grade steel bolts to fortify the caliper bridge section. Computer Finite Element Analysis (FEA) demonstrates that employing high-tensile steel bolts to reinforce the bridge leads to notable enhancements in caliper stiffness compared to a monobloc design. A sturdier bridge section reduces elongation during brake application, resulting in a firmer and more responsive pedal feel, particularly following extended periods of heavy braking where the aluminium bridge of a monobloc design caliper significantly softens with rising temperatures.
In contrast to the majority of cast calipers, typically produced through gravity casting, Apollo Series caliper bodies are machined from heat-treated low-pressure castings. Low-pressure casting represents a significantly more expensive production technique than conventional gravity casting. However, by exerting pressure to force the aluminium alloy into the mould, the consistency of the final part is substantially enhanced. This confers EBC’s Apollo Series brake calipers with a noticeable performance advantage over conventional gravity cast calipers, showcasing superior overall strength and comparable caliper body stiffness to forged counterparts.
Unlike the majority of painted calipers available, Apollo brake calipers eschew a powder coat finish. Powder coating is prone to cracking and discolouration when exposed to high temperatures, resulting in a rapid fading of colour with use. We aim for Apollo calipers to not only look impressive upon purchase but to maintain their visual appeal for years to come. That’s why EBC applies our advanced high-temperature Teflon™ polyester coating process to finish every caliper. This top-coat paint system mirrors the technology used in the cookware industry for the undersides of pans, providing a durable, fade-resistant coating that is easy to clean and ensures that Apollo calipers will retain their aesthetic excellence for years to come.
