CSF VAG MQB Quad-Bypass DSG Cooler (Suitable for Left & Right Fitment)
The inefficiency of the DSG Cooler’s cooling performance can be attributed to the design of the stock cooling system. In the factory setup, the engine coolant flows out of the engine block, branching into a Y-piece where it diverges towards the engine water radiator and subsequently the DSG cooler. Unfortunately, the DSG Cooler in this arrangement is surprisingly undersized and lacks the capacity and efficiency needed to effectively dissipate heat before the coolant circulates to the DSG oil/water heat exchanger.
In scenarios where the engine coolant and DSG oil are both running hot, as is often the case when driving high-performance vehicles, spirited driving, or engaging in track activities, the inadequate cooling effect of the DSG Cooler becomes evident. DSG temperatures start to rise, which can pose a risk to the gearbox. To safeguard against potential damage, the DSG system initiates measures such as reducing torque, increasing shift times, and, in extreme cases, may even result in gear loss. In the worst instances, this could lead to costly damage to the gearbox.
After extensive research and development, CSF has introduced the Quadruple Pass DSG Cooler, offering significantly improved cooling performance compared to the stock component in various aspects.
Stock Cooler:
- 26mm 1-row core
CSF Quadruple Pass DSG Cooler:
- 2-row 42mm Core with CSF B-Tube Technology
- Quadruple Pass Design
- Removable Rock Guard
- Flow Area Increase = 42%
- Heat Rejection Increase = 36%
- Compatible with both Right Side (DSG) and Left Side (Auxiliary Engine Water)
The CSF Quadruple Pass DSG Cooler incorporates a 2-row 42mm core, making optimal use of the available space. The B-tube design enhances tube efficiency, offering greater strength compared to 0-tubes while utilizing less material for a lighter and more efficient heat transfer. Moreover, the inside surface area of the tube is increased by 15% compared to 0-tubes. The Quadruple Pass design ensures that coolant passes through the core four times before exiting, maximizing the radiator’s time to exchange heat, resulting in a 42% increase in flow area and a 36% boost in heat rejection. This design also includes a removable rock guard to enhance durability against debris and rock impacts.
TESTING: CSF All-Aluminum Triple Pass Water Radiator & Quadruple Pass DSG Cooler on 500HP Track MK7R
A customer experienced sluggish performance and slow shifting in their Golf R’s DSG gearbox when pushing it hard. Additionally, the vehicle would enter a reduced power mode. After installing the CSF Quadruple Pass DSG Cooler, these issues were completely resolved. Testing demonstrated that the DSG oil temperature now rises and falls in sync with the engine coolant temperature, which, in this test, did not exceed 100.5°C.
In conclusion, the CSF Quadruple Pass DSG Cooler effectively maintains DSG temperatures well within ideal operating conditions. It is compatible with 8V S3, 8S TT (2.0TSi), MK7 Golf R, and 5F Leon Cupra models.
