The Ramair RIP-010 is a silicone replacement intake hose designed specifically for the Volkswagen Golf MK8 GTi. It swaps out the standard plastic induction hose fitted to the 245bhp 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen 4 engine – the turbocharged engine found in the MK8 GTi – for a higher-quality, more flow-friendly alternative.

This is a straightforward but effective upgrade. The factory plastic hose can restrict airflow into the turbocharger due to its shape and material. Ramair’s silicone replacement is shaped to maintain a constant radius throughout its length, which reduces turbulence and allows air to flow more freely from the airbox to the turbo inlet. Better airflow means the engine and turbo can breathe more efficiently, which supports improved throttle response and can help extract more from any other performance modifications already fitted.

Construction and Quality

The hose is made from high-quality silicone reinforced with a multi-ply polyester mesh layer inside the wall. This reinforcement keeps the hose rigid under boost pressure (the pressure generated by the turbocharger) and prevents it from collapsing or distorting, which can be a weakness with cheaper alternatives. Silicone also handles heat far better than standard plastic over the long term.

The internal diameter measures 80mm at the airbox end and 70mm at the turbocharger adapter end, matching the OEM connection points for a proper fit without modification. A pair of stainless steel W2 hose clamps are included to secure both ends of the hose firmly in place.

Compatibility

The RIP-010 is designed to work with the standard factory airbox in the MK8 Golf GTi, and is also compatible with aftermarket induction kits that mount in the original airbox position. This makes it a useful upgrade whether you are keeping the standard filter setup or have already fitted a performance induction kit.
